Happy Monday! for those of you who have teh day off. SUPER jealous! I do not, but we don’t have any of those Monday holidays off to save up for about 2 full weeks of vacay at the end of the year, which is A-Ok with me! First I want to invite you all to visit my cousin’s site Tastylife. She is a foodie just like us and has lots of great recipes and tricks. She works as a certified holistic health coach and health educator,  with the long term goal is to implement comprehensive school health program around Canada, empowering youth to be advocates for their own communities and families. Right now she is having an AWESOME giveaway so go check her out!

Back up to Saturday for a bit. It was a beautiful day down in Cape Cod. I went for a run while my dad and Jason got down to buisness doing some house work

I think this is the longest outdoor run I have ever done! It was great, I felt awesome and def could have kept going! (half marathon in my future?)

Refueled with this Pinata! Apple. These are So delicious! It reminded me of a honeycrisp. So light and juicy!

Lunch was a turkey wrap on a Josephs with PICKLES! I forgot how much I loved pickles.

With about half of this premade salad from Roche Brothers supermarket.

We went to this restaurant for dinner called Wicked. They are known for their Organic pizzas.

I started with a 9oz decanter of Reisling. This was the coolest container. It rolled around like it was going to fall over but never did! It was quite the optical illusion!

Arugala and pear salad with sweet potato chips, goat cheese and dried cranberries AKA heaven
Ceaser. I am not a fan at all! My dad and Jason basically finished this baby off.

Swordfish with citrus butter sauce, sweet potato mash, sauteed spinach and my NEW favorite veggie ROASTED FENNEL. It is licoricy and delicious! I loved this whole meal

That much.

Goat cheese and roasted veggie pizza for my Dad and Jason (and I had about a half a slice)
MMMM. It was amazing!!! I want to try to replicate in the near future.

Breakfast sunday morning was a big ole bowl of oats!

1/2 C oats, frozen berries, peanut butter on the bottom
Later in the day Jason and I did some grocery shopping and look what I found!

Be aware: these are SO addictive!! I loved this sweet treat! I really did taste a full chocolate flavor in here! only 100 Calories for 3/4 C, not too shabby!
———-

After trudging the New England storm to get into work this morning (It took me an hour and usually takes 25 minutes) and a good run, I down this bowl of Oats with a circular round of PB.

Few hours later some Kays Protein Bites

With some Plain Chobani!
—If you remember I had a Chobani incident the other day when I opened a brand new one and it was about half full! well thanks to Julie’s recommendation I contacted the company to see if I can get some free coupons for that mishap. I haven’t heard back yet but I hope I get some freebies!!

I was also emailing back with Melissa about L-GLutamine and BCAA’s supplements for her weight training program. I just want to share some info that I think is important that I shared with her
As for L-Glutamine, I have mixed feelings about all supplements. I do think they can help but not for extended periods of time. I think that while you are training with these goals in mind, it can help, but also keep in mind every BODY’s body responds different to supplements, as it does with food. Not everyone will have postivive benefits OR experience the negative side effects, if this makes sense. Also, if you are going by a ‘bulking’ then a ‘cutting’ phase you should not need glutamine because it is a non-essential amino acid that is present in the body in large amounts. At some times it forms 60 percent of your total amino acid pool.  Your body already has plenty of glutamine already.
with this said, in a body building competition there are generally 2 phases: The bulking phase and the cutting phase  (But, I want to thank  Jessica for pointing out that everyone has a different competition experience and diet!) I meant this in general terms! In the cutting phase you will probably be lowering your carbs, and if you are cutting up for a figure  or body building competition your carb intake will be so low you are in danger of using hard earned muscle-protein as fuel for your body. the preferred fuel of most tissues is glutamine. (again, some still keep carbs in their cutting phase, this is just one example that I am sharing of what could happen)
It is usually recommened for body builders and I don’t think it is completely necessary for you especially starting out right now. it’s in a lot of foods we eat (beef, chicken, fish, eggs, milk, dairy, wheat, beans, etc)…so unless you are lacking in any of these, you really dont need it.
Some benefits
  • decrease muscle soreness  or eliminating it all together (in some cases)
  • Increased stamina leading to more intense workouts
  • Increased strength gains and metabolism
What I would recommened are BCAA’s (branched Chain Amino Acids).  BCAAs can provide you with that extra umpf that you want from your workout and spare your muscles from being used for fuel. They can also provide a rapid recovery. BCAA’s are Leucine, Isoleuicine & Valine. When you exercise these 3 Amino acids drop which can make you fatigued and tired, and your body will resort to your muscles for fuel. By taking BCAA’s before and after a workout you will provide your body with proper fuel so it doesnt look to your muscles for fuel.
Some benefits
  • promote muscle growth and kick up protein synthesis which is how muscle is created in the first place
  • improve strength
  • Boost endurance by increasing energy your body has.
  • protect against muscle breakdown
  • burn fat
here are some good recommendations
http://www6.netrition.com/amino_vital_pro_powder.html (powder you can mix with whey protein)

WIth all of this information said, I do not believe that supplements are any magic. It takes hard work and a clean diet to get serious results. So work hard and it will surely pay off!!

The chocolate cheerios look so good!! Also your wraps are always so HUGE and look delish.

I don’t take any supplements besides the occasional fish oil. But as a competitor, I must say that it is not necessary to cut your carbs to get ‘cut.’ Everyone is different and there are a million ways to diet, but I prefer a slightly more realistic approach. Up until days before the show I was still eating 200 grams of carbs! It is really the quality of your diet and not the quantity. If you are consistent throughout, it isn’t really necessary to cut much before! 🙂

  2. Nutritious is Delicious says:

You had me at chocolate cherrios! I thought you were going to make a dessert with cherrios; but no…it’s a new Product! And I am soooo jealz that I haven’t seen those yet! HAWT DAWG! haha

In other news, I take a multivitamin (not exactly a workout supplement), my fave pizza is from a local shop…CANT be beat!, I believe I have seen every show on Food Network and, yes, that one is a keeper! 😀 As is food detectives, which they are not keeping up with very well…

  3. peaceluvmunchies says:

Woohooo! for apartment lease signage!! Amazinnng! 😀 Your eats at that restaurant look amazing and that pizza looks to die for — I give your props for only eating a half slice — I couldn’t have resisted at least one!! 🙂 and congrats on a great run!! 🙂

  4. Tricia says:

    No supplements for me 🙂

We have an amazing local pizza place. Their veggie pizza has tons of pepper, broccoli, goat cheese and tomatos. yum!

  5. homecookedem says:

Oh! I saw those chocolate cheerios in the grocery store yesterday but didnt’ even bother picking them up b/c I know I’ll become addicted! I do not need to fall in love with any more carbs, haha! 😉

  6. lizzy says:

Hi! thank you for the sweet comment on my blog! I am loving yours, so much good stuff going on in this post! your eats all look amazingly delish!! I do not take any supplements, I believe that our bodies are so smart they don’t react enough to supplements to really notice a difference…unless the supplements are taken at crazy high levels, and then who knows what harm you’re doing to your body?!?

  7. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says:

“longest outdoor run I have ever done”—YAY!!!!

The swordfish with ROASTED FENNEL…OMG when I was pregnant and the early days of nursing, I ate fennel, like a whole bulb per day, about 5 days a week. I seriously couldnt get enough…and now you remind me how much I have missed it. Guess what im making this week?!!

Choc Cheerios? Wow. Nice info and if I wasnt GF, I would LOVE Those. Darn. But they will make good toddler bribery LOL

  8. sophia says:

OMG….sweet potato mash! And it’s been piped out so decoratively! Swoon! Love swordfish, too!

I don’t take any supplements at all…Can’t say I like the idea of it, but that was some interesting information.
    My favorite pizza = flatbread + figs+arugula+ goat cheese+balsamic reduction+ prosciutto!

  9. Karin says:

That container looks so cool! I bet I would have stared at it for the entire evening. Great looking meals btw and I completely agree: Roasted fennel is SO good!

  10. redhead75 says:

I LOVE glutamine! I swear it’s what has kept me from getting sick the past 3 years. I was out for a week and my entire body was sore so I believe in the stuff. Now it doesn’t give me super human strength or anything 😉

  11. Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run) says:

Chocolate Cheerios?! Um I’ll say those are addicting…they sound delicious. Yum. I don’t take any workout supplements but take vitamins! Do those count?! And fave pizza topping – broccoli and ricotta…um and I watch the Food Network constantly so I’ve seen that show a bunch…I love it – but it makes me hungry!

  12. Julie says:

so so so exciting about your lease!

and choco cheerios! now they’ve really done it. i don’t think anything will ever beat banana nut. well unless they made a mint chocolate chip then that would be cheerio heaven.

ughhhh whyyyy do we not have that pizza here!!

  13. april says:

Chocolate cheerios?? Oh my, my family is going to go nuts! (I have some cheerio addicts here!)

And thanks for the info on those supplements! Right now I take fish oil, collagen, magnesium, and sometimes apple cider vinegar pills. But I’m thinking about taking the ones you were talking about!

  14. MelindaRD says:

Looks like a super duper restaurant. The pizza looks great. My fave is artichokes and mushrooms and actually pineapple pizza is my fave fave but I do not make it as often. Nevre seen the show on the food network, but I live overseas and do not have the option to watch some of those things. As for supplements, I am anti-supplement as a result of non-regulation and things of that nature which I could go on about all day, but I will spare everyone.

  15. MelissaNibbles says:

Thanks again for the supplement info.
My fave pizza is a white alfredo pizza. Also, reisling is my fave wine. I’m def going to check out that restaurant in the near future.

    Awesome run girl!

  16. foodfitandfun says:

Chocolate Cheerios??? haha sounds great! Awesome job on your run…I love the accomplishment of reaching a PR. I just started to take Vitamin D supplements (1,000 IU) two days ago. I am afraid that I do not get enough Vitamin D in the winter months living in New Jersey…this is the first supplement I have ever taken…do you think it’s a good idea?

  17. Mari says:

Yums that Pizza looks amazing! and lady you are like the queen of wraps lol

I don’t really take any supplements besides Vitamin C and Protein Powder (does that count?)

  18. Missy says:

Great job on the run! I need to try some Chocolate Cheerios asap! That pizza looks so so good. My favorit kind would have to be veggie goat cheese pizza! I try to take fish oil, calcium +vitamin D, and a multivitamin but I forget a lot!

  19. Kacy says:

That swordfish meal looks amazing! As does the pizza. Right up my alley.

Fave pizza is either Margherita or Greek-style veggie. Never really met a pizza I didn’t like though 🙂

I don’t take any supplements. Just try to get that protein in.

  20. ktbwood says:

oh SNAP that pizza looks off da chainnnn!
LOVE kays stuf! i bet its great in chobani.. i gota try it!
im def gona look at those articles
    CHOCOLATE CHEERIOS! yum!

  21. Abby (Abbys Vegan Eats) says:

That cereal does look addicting.. I have found myself lately coming home from work and just grabbing a box and munching away.. so those would be dangerous for me. lol

I take supplements (not for workout)simply bc my diet is a tad limited.. I take B12, Zinc, Iron, and Evening Primrose Oil.

    Happy Tuesday, hun!! 🙂

  22. Gina says:

Fantastic information about supplements! I’ve not read much about glutamine, but I’m interested in the BCAA and I try to consume some after my workouts. I just get it in the form of milk or yogurt, not supplements.

Your pizza looks fantastic. I’ve never tried putting goat cheese on pizza, but Nick and I would LOVE that, so I should give it a try sometime!

  23. Janetha says:

super impressed with your run. props girl. i adore honeycrisps so i think id like that apple variety. now if only i could find it.. roasted fennel is SO SO good, no?! i love fennel! choco cheerios? never heard of them! do they turn the milk chocolatey like cocoa puffs? hope chobs gets you some free loot. they are a great company so i bet they will. i agree w/ you on supps not doing the work for you. but taking them doesnt hurt! i take CLA, glucosamine chondroitin, fish oil, protandum.. i think that is all! fave pizza? ANY KIND! not picky.

so glad i am caught up. sure love you!

  24. Katie says:

Good work on that run!! Go for the half marathon 🙂

I’m so excited about those chocolate cheerios! I wonder if they have them in my grocery store here!? Also, that monster wrap looks too good.

  25. Jenny says:

HOLY HELL!!!! how did I not know about those cheerios?!! I bet those would be amazing mixed with some banana nut cheerios too. swooon.

thanks so much for the info girl. You’re such a wealth of knowledge 🙂

  26. Heather Iacobacci-Miller says:

Oh, since I’m a sucker for pizza, I had to comment! My fav is a Greek style with sundried tomatoes, artichokes, spinach, banana pepper rings, and feta (of course). I also like pizzas that are fully veggie loaded (and I don’t mean black olives and onions and peppers). I’m talking real vegetables.
