I want to start by possibly opening a whole can of worms here and it has to do with this

Heidi was on Good Morning America this morning and you can watch the interview HERE

  • For those of you who have no idea who or what this is. This is Heidi Montag. She and her Husband, Spencer have become B-list celebrities from their apperance on “The Hills” on MTV. Back in November, Heidi had some plastic surgery. Ok, she had A LOT of plastic surgery-10 procedures to be exact all performed in 1 day.
  • Heidi says “ I was made fun of when I was younger, and so I had insecurities, especially after I moved to L.A. People said I had a “Jay Leno chin”; they’d circle it on blogs and say nasty things. It bothered me. And when I watched myself on The Hills, my ears would be sticking out likle Dumbo! I just wanted to feel more confident and look in the mirror and be like, “Whoa! That’s me!” I was an ugly duckling before.” Well I guess she felt that going under the knife would make all of her problems go away.
  • Heidi has just come out with a new CD appropriately titled “SUPERFICIAL” On Good Morning America and in her People Magazine article she spoke about how this is “her choice’ and she is in a cut throat industry so she wanted to improve her ‘looks’ (which in my opinion, made her look 10 times worse) She wants to be a role model to young girls by telling them that inner beauty is the most important, but how can inner beauty be important when she just spent over $30,000 in plastic surgery fixing her outer self?
  • I feel bad for this 23 year old who thinks this is normal, safe and most importantly think she is  a role model.
  • What are your thoughts on This?

With some of my mom’s homemade butternut squash/fennel soup. I don’t want to toot my own mom’s horn but I will. She needs to open a soup restaurant. They are always so different and amazing. She doesn’t use salt and it is just so flavorful. I was savoring each bite fo reallll (I also added these ‘shrooms, they weren’t in the big pot!)

Currently watching some TV with this sugar cookie candle on my side. The whole room smells like cookies its intoxicating! Biggest loser was interrupted because of the Massachusetts senate race which goes to SCOTT BROWN!

  • What do you think of This whole Heidi surgery craziness? I think its ridic! the girl is off the rocker and I feel bad for her!
  • What is your favorite dish made by your mom? I LOVE her soups and she also makes a mean roasted chicken!
  • Do you like to ‘healthify’ meals that may otherwise be unhealthy? I DO!

ugh. all of the Hills girls make me want to gouge my eyes out! ok, maybe not that extreme, but it’s such a sad phenomenon, all this plastic surgery. she was prettier before! love how you put the apple right on the cover girl’s face haha.

my fave dish made by my mom is something i don’t eat anymore (bc it has chicken in it.) but i’m sure it’d be equally good with tofu/other veg option: it’s called ragout, basically a veggie stew but OMG so good!

i DO like to healthify meals, but i’m also working on keeping some of the “unhealthy” ingredients if they make the dish better (and me less obsessed.) like having a sprinkle of REAL cheese instead of heaps of fake vegan cheese that doesn’t have real flavor to it.

  2. MelindaRD says:

That salmon looks great. I bought the mashed up one like tuna salad style and mixed it with a laughing cow cheese to make a faux cream cheese and lox spread and ate it on a bagel. The Heidi thing is absurd and I think she is just looking for more publicity. Her and Spencer are publicity junkies and I think he has serious problems if he let this happen. This shows guys it is ok to have a girl fix themselves if they are not perfect and then want girls to fix any imprefections they have. Sadly, no one is perfect and if you are then you know it is artificial as we were not designed this way. I think this is a big fat mess and she has crossed the line. Fine, do it behind closed doors, but then don’t go publicizing it.

  3. tam says:

Ah I up dated your link as I’ve not been getting up dates! My favorite meal my mama makes is her carrot and lentil soup or ALL her cakes she is the best baker I know! x x

  4. peaceluvmunchies says:

I have found, that sometimes I just have to go in and manually refresh your feed, even though I have the right link — sometimes your posts pop up no prob, and some days I think “Hmm, I bet Naomi has updated” and hit refresh and there you are! 🙂

Oh, Heidi, Heidi, Heidi — she’s 2…3? is that how old she is? and yet she’s managed to make herself look like a 50 y/o woman trying to be 30. Not good. Her comments lead me to believe that insecurities that have been with her for life lie under all that work, and its unfortunate because she was a cute girl before all of her surgeries!

Lo Bosworth (aka fellow Hills costar/former Laguna Beach chica) made a really good point, that yes everyone has a right to do what they want, but it is troublesome the message that Heidi puts out “Everyone’s doing it” — yeh, so? and they’re not actually…I mean Hollywood is filled with plastic people…but they didn’t go become plastic at 23… at not all in one day. Lo said something about being concerned that young people who watch their show and look up to Heidi (God help them if they looked up to Heidi) will think that surgery is the answer and that’s so not true.

Obviously, in my opinion, there is something going on inside Ms. Heidi’s head that no amount of surgeries will fix.

  5. coffeerun8 says:

I have trouble feeling sorry for Heidi because she’s all about publicity. But it is sad to see someone so young & naturally beautiful with all those insecurities

  6. Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run) says:

This Heidi thing is INSANE! Seriously – what is that girl thinking? So sad…! My mom’s desserts are my favorite thing…brownies and lemon cake…yum! And YES you know I love healthifying unhealthy dishes! Casseroles, pastas, burgers – anything! Have a lovely day missy!

  7. Jenny says:

I just read that article the other day and was outraged. I think Spencer definitely corrupted Heide — HATE HIM!! and she’s setting SUCH an awful example for young girls. Meh. Speidi needs to go awayyyyy.

on a happier note – you never fail to make me hungry. nom nom nom 🙂

  8. Julie says:

heidi is a fool. and she should be so ashamed of herself. enough about that haha

oooh come to long island and teach spin hereee! love that playlist 🙂 and we burned the same amt of calories! well me today at spin haha you yesterday.

  9. Jocelyn says:

The worst part is..Heidi talks about loving the lord and being in His image and being a “christian” and then she does something like this…

It bothers me for sure that young girls everywhere are looking up to her :S

  10. brandi says:

I think she looks horrible, honestly. She looked so much better before ANY of the surgeries.

and really – she’s what, 23, and she’s having this much work done and LIPO when she’s already thin? I just can’t imagine what it’s going to cost to keep this up now for the rest of her life.

Your body is meant to grow and change with you, and with that much work, you’re taking out that part of the journey of life.

  11. Gina says:

Heidi is crazy, but like you, I feel bad for her. She obviously has some serious self-confidence issues. It’s really sad, she looks worse not than she did before! I compare her to Daffy Duck (sorry, it’s true, those lips are awful!).

I love my mothers stir-frys and her chicken cattiatore, yum! And yes, I’m all about healthified meals, it’s my life! I take a recipe and make it healthy.

I love that you put pickles on your sandwiches, they are so delicious. And as always, I LOVE your wraps!

  12. liveloveeatandplay says:

I can’t believe any 23 year old would feel a need to do this, and it makes me really sad. She is so desperate to be in this industry, and I think there’s a lot more to it than trying to fit in. I think there must be a bigger problem at hand making her do this. She’s already so tiny, and I thought she was pretty before.

  13. MelissaNibbles says:

I got the vanilla BSN protein. It’s delish! I’ll have to try your cereal trick you’ve got there.

Heidi and Spencer are just jealous that the Jersey Shore cast has stolen their MTV spotlight and this was something to get them back in the news.

  14. Karin says:

I feel exactly the same as you! It’s so sad when people don’t embrace themselves how they are (including flaws and all). Heidi was so pretty before but now she looks exactly like so many other plastic girls. I feel sorry for her.
LOVE the fact that you included Muse in your tracklist for spin class. LOVELOVELOVE!

  15. Nicole (dishin') says:

Ick! Heidi grosses me out. She doesn’t get what’s important…I guess Superficial is a good title for her CD where her voice is probably edited to not even sound like her. She looks so fake to me and older…I don’t get it but she’s obviously insecure.

My mom makes a couple good chicken dishes! And desserts!!

If you don’t mind me asking, what gym do you work at?

  16. Erica says:

This whole Heidi thing is ridiculous. Such a bad example for young girls and women in general. I wish the media would just ignore her.

Glad you had such a great workout with your trainer! Love workouts that involve plyo. Spin sounds like it really rocked too!!

I need to try almond milk in my protein shakes, bet its amazing.

My mom makes some pretty kick butt pasta sauce

  17. thebalancebroad says:

Funny, I JUST read the Heidi article last night! I feel SO sorry for her. She mentions more than once about not being beautiful before…she totally was! The problem is that she is constantly herself to others. People who do that will never be happy. 🙁

Thanks for the playlist….I LOVE those songs!

  18. balancejoyanddelicias says:

    1. I respect others to do whatever they want with their life and body but I don’t think it’s a good model for young girls.
    2. anything chinese
    3. always. like my dairy free chocolate pudding that I make with silken tofu!

  19. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says:

homemade butternut squash/fennel soup with NO added SALT??!!!! OMG your mom is a genius! I am super salt sensitive and follow a lower sodium diet, I dont eat processed foods AND I am a raw vegan, so it works LOL

THe playlist. I have 80% of those tracks and love them!

Heidi. Well I respect everyone’s choice to do what they want to their body. Piercings, tattoos, plastic surg. However, at 10 procedures in her early 20s I think it’s over the top…ANd whether she wants to be or not, she IS a role model for younger girls and it’s not good to send that msg. At all. 🙂

  20. goodtastehealthyme says:

Ugh I know. I find it very disturbing that she had that much plastic surgery done! I personally could never do it…I wouldn’t want to look in the mirror and not see myself!

I was so mad that Biggest Loser got interrupted!! I wanted to see how she looked today!

  21. findinghappinessandhealth says:

your eats look great, of course, but i want to comment more on the heidi article.

i cant believe what that girl has done to herself. she truly looked beautiful before- now hse has changed herself so drastically that she can never go back. i am so disgusted wiht her and iwth her decisions- she is far from a role model and represents everything that is screwed up with our society.

  22. lifeafterbagels says:

but I don’t think that the before is actually her original self, isn’t that the before this surgery but after she had already done a couple . . .

either way it’s kind of weird 🙁

    – Morgan

  23. Paula says:

I read that article about Heidi on Monday. I think it is sad. She says she is happy but how can you be, when you look in the mirror and don’t even recognize yourself?
Ratouille is one of my Ma’s favorites. 🙂

  24. janetha says:

thanks for the link to your cousin’s site. i think i missed that somehow before. heidi is a joke. i hadnt seen photos before this post because i dont pay attention to the tabloids but WOW that is crazy! and, like i am sure many people think, she looked better before. for sure. what a whack job. the smashed garbanzo wrap and that fennel soup both look incredible. well, everything does, as usual. i LOVE healthifying meals! and my mom makes these sinful deep fried scones. favorite. food. ever. love you!

  25. faithfitnessfun says:

I had no clue about Heidi! She does look way worse after the surgery. I cannot believe she actually views herself as a role model. That is ridiculous. You know I could go on about this forever. Ugh!

My favorite meal my mom makes would probably have to be nothing! My mom is just like me and can’t really cook. So I think I would say my favorite would be a meal OUT with her. LOL

And I love making regular meals a bit healthier. Why not lighten things up if you can?

  26. ktbwood says:

    UMM HEIDI!! what the HECK?!?
    she looks nastayyy!
girl u gota try the 2% chobs! creamy GOODNESS!!
your comment was supa sweet 🙂 my bf is totally the same way..we ran back from the gym and he was DYING and trying to play it off soooo cool
gota try that salmon jank!! u just find it at the grocery store??

  27. Jessica @ How Sweet says:

I think Heidi looks TERRIBLE now. I enjoyed her and SPencer for funny MTV drama (but really hated them), and I think she looks 35-40 now. Totally ruiner her career in my opinion. favorite dish by my mom is her beer roast and mashed potatoes! YUM!!

  28. Kelly says:

Yeah I am shocked by the whole Heidi thing- ugh! What was she thinking? She was beautiful already. Sometimes I really wonder what is wrong with people.

I can’t believe there are chocolate cheerios! I definitely want to try those!

  29. One Healthy Apple says:

Ack! I haven’t been getting any of your updates! I was starting to wonder what happened and then I realized my computer was being lame again!

    1. Heidi is too much. I am not against plastic surgery, but I think there are a lot of self esteem issues involved in the background and they should be addressed. (By someone else, not my area of expertise!)

    2. I love all my mom’s baked goods! So good and so simple!

    3. Yep, I healthify everything! It’s a disease!

Have a wonderful day girl! Wonderful eats as always! I think I’ll steal your playlist for my workouts!

  30. Meg's Gut says:

Beauty is within??? She definitely portrays that in the interview….
Hm..I don’t know about this girl.
I just feel bad for her, she definitely has some confidence issues…but it’s her body right?

I love my mom’s soups as well. My favourite would be her chicken veggie soup, it’s packed with delicious vegetables and huge chunks of chicken. Yum.

  31. simplyshaka says:

I pride myself that I had never watched the Hills but absolutely love my celebrity gossip! Even with the monstrous boobs, she was cute and almost….had a wholesome look to her(well her face at least). She seriously looks 40 something now and just too plasticy. And I was watching her interview and said she poured her life savings into her new cd. Whatev! I am sure her and Spencer will just happen to go help in Haiti for a photo opp (and not out of the goodness of their hearts) just so their names will be circulating again.

On another note—I have never tried packaged salmon like that but may have to try that-looks delish!

  32. Gelareh @ Orange Truffle says:

Heidi’s story is very sad… at the sametime I feel bad for her and the fact that she thinks she needs to artificially make herself beautiful.. but she is the product of our media and social behavior… everyone wants bigger boobs and slimmer tights, flatter belly etc..

Well being a Persian, I have to say anything Persian my mom makes… but if i have to be specific I would say her Gormeh Sabzi 😉

    Yes I love healthified dishes.

  33. TotalFitGirl says:

Heidi Montag’s plastic surgery addiction is so terrible and sad. She was always cute and definitely didn’t need plastic surgery, let alone 10 procedures in 1 day! The girl just needs some self-confidence!

  34. Mari says:

she baffles me because she is allll about God etc but what would God think about her changing something HE created?!?!?! hmmmmmm

  35. Cara says:

re: Heidi – I think there are some very appropriate times and reasons to have a plastic surgery, I don’t think Heidi had any of them however.

re: do I like to healthify recipes? Oh yes, I’m all about it!

re: Scott Brown cutting into Bigget Loser (I know you didn’t ask, but) totally grated on my nerves. We missed the best parts – weigh in and seeing how the eliminated person did at home! grrr.

  36. greensandjeans says:

I think Holly is twelve shades of crazy and is really in it for attention, which of course, we are all giving her! My mom makes the best spinach lasagna EVER! Just thinking about it makes me drool.

  37. eatmovelove says:

I was going to post on the whole Heidi thing…but I think you sum it up nicely :)…it’s absolutely crazy …honestly I think she is gone delusional – I mean she really thinks she’s the next Britney Spears…it’s really sad – what does Spencer think of this?…the really sad thing is she looked SO much better BEFORE the surgery !! Oh my gosh – she looks like THE CATWOMAN…it’s So sad aND UNBELIEVABLE THAT A 23- YEAR OLD IS DOING THIS??!! WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO? HOLLYWOOD? AND SHE’S NOT EVEN A STAR!!!…AND HER BOOBS LOOK GROSS TOO – …

Fav Mom dishes?? Makes me sad to think about…I miss her big roast beef dinners with potatoes, turnips, peas puddings, carrots, …and ketchup ;)…and “ShipWreck” – which is a casserole basically made of layers of potatoes sliced, peas, carrots, rice, and then a layer of lean ground beef layered on top with a ketchup or sauce (kinda like a meatloaf seasoning)…so good 🙂

  38. Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says:

I just got some regular smoked salmon from TJ’s but BOY DO I WANNA TRY THAT CHICKEN OF THE SEA KIND!!!! Looks good.

About Heidi…that article almost made me cry. It was actually really sad how dissatisfied with herself she is/was. I don’t think it’ll bring her to the pop star status she wants. She doesn’t look human. I think she looked the best before any of that happened…so pretty.

  39. melonshots says:

    1. i hate hate what heidi did to herself. I watched The Hills since the first season. she was gorgeous. I cant belive she changed EVERYTHING about herself. makes me sick.
    2. my mom makes MEAN cabbage rolls and roasts veggies to perfection.
    3. i love to healthify meals!

  40. Meredith (Pursuing Balance) says:

She is definitely not a role model. This was very unsafe and does not send a good message to the girls who look up to her — that someone who is beautiful and talented enough to be on tv still isn’t “good enough”. Terrible!!!!!

  41. Heather Iacobacci-Miller says:

Ok, I’m a sucker for sugar cookie, vanilla, or pumpkin scented candles! YUM!! I enjoy trying to figure out how to make recipes both vegetarian and healthy. I am a Food Network junkie and love Giada. I have been able to take several of her recipes and turn them vegetarian and make them a bit healthier along the way.

  42. FoodFitnessFreshair says:

ugh, the whole Heidi thing is ridiculous! She’s definitely addicted to plastic surgery and publicity. It’s sad to see people like this. She looked best before she even went blonde!

  43. Julie says:

I honestly feel bad for Heidi. She has got some serious issues if she thinks plastic surgery is going to cure all her insecurities. She looks fake and plastic and was so much prittier back in the olden days of the hills.

I’ve always been scared to try that salmon, but now that you tried it and liked it I’m going to give it a whirl!

  44. chrystad72 says:

OMG…Heidi Montag kinda gets to me. I think she needs to focus on becoming and happier more well rounded person and to stop striving towards this ideal that doesnt exsist. Im not saying plastic surgery is a bad thing. I think if its your decision and you feel its a right choice for you then ok..but you can definitely go too far with it. And I think she went way overboard on the surgery. People with addictions no matter they are (in her case plastic surgery) need some help to get over the problem. I think she looked great before!

But onto food! I think that salmon looks wonderful. Im such a huge fan of lox so I’ll have to keep my eyes out for this. Looks fantastic. Great job on the Spin class and thanks for posting that awesome playlist. Im always lookin to update mine.

Its ssoo hard to pick just one food from my mom. She is my culinary hero! Every time I visit i so look forward to tearing up the kitchen with her. We have so much fun.
    Have a wonderful day sweetie!!!

  45. biz319 says:

As much as I hate Heidi, I hate her husband more! How they think they are even relatively famous is beyond me – in 5 years no one will remember their names.

Hooray for your Mom’s soup! It’s funny – my daughter said to me the other day “Mom, thanks for your food – I have only just realized that most of my friends Mom’s don’t even cook, and I take your cooking for granted – so thanks!”

    Made my day! 😀

  46. Christine says:

That is sad about Heidi, never was a fan and tried to avoid any gossip about “Speidi” not wanting to support fame by attention whoreism. But now I just feel bad for her too, sad that she feels so preassured to go through that just to be accepted … look how well that worked for Tara Reid.

Great food pics and blog BTW.

  47. K from ksgoodeats says:

Ughhhhhh < - that is what I have to say about Hiedi. She's such a fame whore and it's really obnoxious! She was so much prettier on the first season of The Hills. Your mom's soup looks fantastic! Feel free to have her open a restaurant in Detroit ;) When I’m cooking a meal I like to make it healthy but if I’m baking (espesh for others) I do the full fat thing. I just pick and choose my battles so to speak 😉

  48. healthhappinesshope says:

I think it was great of you to call the whole “Heidi” issue to our attention. I knew she had some plastic surgery, but I didn’t realize the extent! She says she “had some insecurities…” Well that right there indicates that she needs to MENTALLY learn to accept herself and her body for the beauty it brings WITHOUT any surgery. She probably has a lot of issues that need to be worked out, and plastic surgery is only going to cover them up.

    That salmon pita looks amazing!!!

    xxoo
    Heather

  49. Melissa says:

I think Heidi honestly looks DISGUSTING after all of that plastic surgery. It’s terrible that she could’ve been so hurt by what was said about her that she would go to such extremes. Really makes me sad.

I wish I could’ve taken your spin class! Awesome song choices!
