Calorie Burning Drinks? Favorite Childhood Gadget?

Happy Sunday! Normally, I would be sad and bitter that tomorrow is Monday, but today is different because I have off from work this entire week! I am so looking forward to relaxing and not working! I will pick up a few extra shifts at the place I worked at in high school called ‘the kids place’ It is a painting, ceramics, arts and crafts store for kids. They host birthday parties and walk in’s and its a fun place to pick up some extra cash. I am super close with the owner, so i am going to work for her probably on Wednesday and maybe Thursday.

Yesterday I hit the mall with one of my friends and we went into Sur La Table which is an upscale cook wear, bakeware and all things foodie galore! seriously, I have never been into such an amazing store!

Fun tools
Fun cocktail napkins
I wanted this.
Heaven? I think so.
I got home around 5pm and was a bit hungry, but not ready for dinner yet. I whipped up a yog mess with 1/2 sliced gala apple, frozen blueberries and some vanilla extract
I also had one of these lil muffins from Trader Joes that have only 80 calories, 1.5g of fat and 13 grams of fiber! They are super tasty and don’t taste ‘cardboard-like’ at all! I heated it up in the toaster and it was perfect!
Dinner was a big ole’ salad with smoked tofu, sprouts, yellow bell pepper, cuke, butter lettuce, pumpkin spiced chickpeas
Trader Joes low carb wrap with some more sliced tofu and melted mozz= A tofu Quesadilla! and roasted BS’s.

This was delicious! the smokey flavored tofu and gooey cheese onto of the crispy ‘dilla was just was I was craving!
Bad snap shot of myself ready to go out on the town with my best friends! Jason was in NY visiting his friends and 2 of my best friends were in town for the holidays. We went to a bar downtown Boston called “Whiskeys” we met up with some of my other good friends from HS and it was SUCH a fun time! I always love seeing my best friends from HS.
———
This morning, I woke up around 10:30! This is unheard of for me, but I did get to bed around 3am, so I thought it was ok to be lazy, especially on a Sunday!
This guy was waiting for a nice bath
A Coffee bath!
I have had this mug since I was 3 years old. I LOVE it with all my heart and this morning I went to my basement to get some laundry and saw it on the shelf where my mom keeps some old kitchen stuff. I smiled from ear to ear and knew I was going to be using this mug!

1/2 C oatmeal, chia, cinnamon, 2 eggwhites, frozen cherries. MMMM

-I hit the gym after I digested. I was in the mood for a run. To be honest I could have gone outside it was about 60 degrees here today in Boston! But it was a bit rainy, so I opted to go on the dreadmill. I did 4.5 miles! Felt awesome. Ended with some ab work and called it a day.

This was the star of the show for lunch! Spicy hummus from TJ’s. The hummus itself was delicious! it was the inside that was super spicy, but I liked it 🙂
And a big ole’ salad again. This was so good last night that I had to make it again for lunch! pumpkin spiced chickpeas, tofu, yellow pep, cuke, tomaters (sorry for the repetition)

Reading some Cooking Light. Great article on the Power Of Oats
And some awesome recipes
I will be making this!
Then I saw an add for Celcius whose tag line is ‘Burn baby Burn” it is said to help your body burn up to 100 extra calories….hmmm  I am very skeptical of these so called calorie burning drinks such as this and Enviga. I did a bit of research and it showed that

in the small number of controlled studies done on these products, the slight increase in metabolic rate was insignificant to weight loss. According to The Center for Science in the Public Interest, many of these drinks are ineffective and their advertising claims false.

I am off to relax, and watched Knocked Up, which is on E! (love this movie!) Plan is to go to spinning tomorrow morning at my gym or run, I can’t decide! We’ll see how I feel later!
  • Thoughts on these calorie burning drinks? Do you drink them, is it because of their claims or do you simply enjoy the taste?
  • Do you have a childhood gadget, toy or object that you, to this day adore, like I do with my frog mug?
  • What is the most recent recipe you made?

oh my gosh that frog in the mug is too cute!
I watched Knocked Up on tv too today 🙂

my mom and grandma made me a blanket before i was born and gave it to me when i was a newborn. when i learned to talk I called it my “mankey” .. i guess i couldn’t pronounce blankey yet haha. i still have my blanket til this day! When i have kids (in like 10 years lol) I hope to carry on the blanket giving tradition!

Love the froggie mug! We used to have one, too!! I loved giving it to guests…mwahahaha. :-p Honestly, I think calorie burning drinks are a load of crock. I’ve always gone with the mantra “If it seems too good to be true…it probably is” — and I dunno..I guess technically your body is always burning calories so the claims are not untruthful. but yeah I don’t believe it.

  3. redhead75 says:

Um has anyone said they love that frog mug? LOL! I collect frogs! Not real ones 😉

I don’t believe in calorie burning drinks…only green tea.

Mmmm…brownies with hershey bars in the middle.

Your posts are always filled with some many neat foods and gadgets, I love it!

So, I clicked on the link that you provided for this “calorie burning drink” and just as I thought, it’s basically a dietary supplement in liquid form. IN other words, there are a ton of ingredients (at no specific amounts) thrown into this drink. Caffeine and guaran are the two that stimulate metabolism, both of which can be dangerous at high amounts (especially the guarana, which should not be used by women who are pregnant, or anyone with a heart condition or heart disease or diabetes!!). I think I’ll stick to my regular coffee, which I know has nothing else extra in it, and which will boost my energy a bit, at a cheaper price thank you! It’s really scary actually, what products are being sold and how “well known, trusted” magazines are supporting them!! Yikes.

a coffee bath, eh? that sounds heavenly!!

isn’t reuiniting with High School friends the best?! It’s amazing how despite the time you spend apart — when you get back together it’s so natural and as though nothings changed!

ick, not sure how I feel about the calorie burning drinks — they seem like a load of BS to me. I think I’ll stick with agua 🙂

  6. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says:

great mug! I have some pottery that I made in junior high but nothing as old as 3 yrs old..that’s awesome!

Thoughts on cal burning drinks? Waste of money. Just eat less somewhere else in your life rather than trying to buy a drink that “burns” calories. Just eat a little less elsewhere, common sense I think LOL

    Enjoy your time off Naomi!!!!!!!

  7. ktbwood says:

wow, weird about the calorie burning drinks!! hmm..not sure how i feel about that?! i cant see it working that much..maybe if you had like 10! most recent recepie-naner soft serve..NOMM!!
    love your tofu cheesy wrap!

Sur la table is totally out of my price range but i love going there anyway..i could spend an hour just browsing! There’s one in the ferry building in SF. I know those little fiber cakes from TJ’s, they’re so good!

  9. homecookedem says:

I love those little muffins from TJ’s! Definitely a tasty treat for not too many calories and pretty satisfying too!!

As for cal burning drinks… I used to drink green tea daily b/c I heard it speeds up metabolism. It might a teensy, but not enought to notice any physical changes. But I do still drink caffeine free green tea as much as possible b/c I DO believe it helps keep me from getting colds and viruses!!

  10. april says:

That frog is so cute!! I can’t believe you’ve had it that long!

And I love those TJ’s muffins.. they are so moist and filled with fiber!

Oh and the cinnamon raisin bread is from Sunflower Market!

I love Sur la Table! Its too much fun. I have to leave my purse in the car when I shop though otherwise Im a bit out of control in there=) Your mug is super cute too by way!

I actually dont like energy drinks of any kind. I never liked the way that they tasted and I prefer to eat my calories and not drink them. I get too much enjoyment out of eating. Just personal preference though I guess. Although I think the calorie burning ads are all hype. (Im a skeptic too=) I think good eats and great workouts are the only sure fire way to boost that metabolism and burn some calories.

Besides my regular plates of veggie messes probably the last huge meal I made was christmas eve. Ive been kind of low key in the kitchen since then.

but aannyways darlin I hope you have fun tommorrow! Both running and spinning sound fun so Im sure either will be great. Have an awesome night!!

  12. Andrea@WellnessNotes says:

I love Sur la Table; I could spend hours there (and lots of money, but I usually refrain…).

My mom still has my flower mug that I loved when I was growing up. I always use it when I’m visiting my parents…

  13. findinghappinessandhealth says:

  14. Karin says:

That store looks so good! I love funny unnecessary kitchen tools.
The mug is so adorable – I’d probably drink from it all the time because I’m 5yo at heart. 🙂
I only have to work today and then I’m off as well, yay!
    Enjoy your days off!

  15. Erica says:

That sounds like a fun job to do on your break! Hope you enjoy. Great shopping- love kitchen stores…I could be in there forever. Love all of the TJs products. I wish they’d just OPEN one in Charleston! Gosh. I love quesadillas. I need to put those on our menu for the upcoming week

  16. FoodFitnessFreshair says:

I love cooking stores! I always want to buy everything. I don’t believe in calorie burning drinks, nor do I drink them. They’re usually just pumped with tons and tons of caffeine.

    Cute froggie 🙂

  17. Mari says:

I am jealous of all the bloggies that have a whole week off lol….

all your eats looks amazing and I love love love that mug, it is too cute!

    Enjoy your staycation =)

  18. iamahoneybee says:

I have a mug like that but it has a fairy in there.

I have another mug that I love sooo much more. No one can use it. Perfect size, holds temperature perfectly, holds 2 servings of keruig tea/coffee with enough room for milk, heavy, etc. At least I’m not the only one in loves a mug!

  19. MelindaRD says:

I don’t buy into the whole energy burning drink thing for the reasons you have listed. As an RD I need to make sure I look into that stuff so I know what to say to patients/clients when they ask.

Love the frog mug. Sur la Table is a great store, lots of fun things to look at, which makes it almost too much fun.

  20. Janetha says:
